“Believe me, I was a little skeptical if this was a real person texting me or if someone was just playing a joke on me. When I read the text message, I was quite surprised and felt unsure of what to do. But I prayed, asking God to guide me.”
Prior to our trip to Cambodia, one of our missionary friends shared the contact of a youth pastor, who has a ministry in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He mentioned that if we ever needed help we were to contact this youth pastor. I know that many people might not believe in “divine appointments”; they usually call it “just a coincidence”. But as I’ve shared before, there are no coincidences in our Christian walk…only opportunities.
During our time in the capital, we felt that God wanted us to reach out to other missionaries and focus more on helping them instead of just worrying about our visas situation.
We’re so thankful that this youth pastor listened to the guidance of the Holy Spirit; he agreed to meet with us at a coffee shop nearby. He shared with us his inspiring testimony of how God had called him to work with the youth in his church and the youth in his neighborhood. He was given many opportunities of having wealth and fame, but instead he chose to obey God’s calling for his life, and ever since he began, “he’s never looked back.”
During the next few days, he took us to his two learning English centers and he introduced to us his team of youth leaders. He shared with us how God has been using those English classes to touch the hearts of the children and many of them have now given their lives to Christ. The first group of teens he gave free English lessons to, at the beginning of his ministry, they are now his youth leaders helping him with the learning centers and the church youth meetings!
It was amazing to see the great work this youth pastor is doing with the youth not only in his church but in his community, as well. We were also given the opportunity to share at one of their church youth meetings. God’s presence was there with us and it was wonderful to see how these young people hunger and long for The Truth.
Truly, God has been using him to bring life and hope to these young lives. From the moments we were with the youth pastor, I learned the importance of choosing God’s will over ours. He was given the choice to pursue fame and wealth or start free English lessons for kids. And his choice affected not only his life but the ones of those who are now his youth leaders.
God’s will can only be the best for our lives. And because we’re not looking ahead, we don’t realize the importance there is in obeying and answering to His calling. Seeking His Kingdom above all and choosing God first, will never take away from us but rather it will add so much more than we can possibly imagine.
