SING TOGETHER

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee,

How great Thou art, how great Thou art…”

The different voices could be heard singing in unison the great hymn, “How Great Thou Art” late at night. Many of us at that moment forgot all about our worries as we entered into a realm of joy and thanksgiving. One of the missionaries present, ended the night with prayer. As he prayed, he started to cry; not because of any hurt or distress but because God’s presence was so strong and our hearts were full of gratitude toward God’s endless faithfulness. Our missionary friends agreed to eat breakfast together the following day.

“…speaking in heavenly tongues, causing our hearts to stir even more.”

We met up at our friends’ home and shared a wonderful feast of a breakfast; every stomach was full and content. The main topic that morning was how wonderfully strong God’s presence was felt the night before. We were all humbled and grateful to have experienced God’s wonderful presence that night.

Another missionary took out his guitar and strummed a few chords starting the song “Great is Thy Faithfulness” and then continued on to singing “Give Thanks”. That morning was spent worshipping and praising God together as the family of Christ. Someone would begin a new song and everyone would join. The oldest missionary present, at the age of 91, was asked to pray a blessing upon the other missionaries. While he prayed, we could all feel God’s presence continue to move as His Holy Spirit comforted and encouraged our hearts. He then ended the prayer by speaking in heavenly tongues, causing our hearts to stir even more. Everyone was crying out of gratitude and our hearts were humbled for we knew without a doubt, that God was showing us his great faithfulness and love. Towards the end, we all shared how grateful we were for the time we had together worshipping, praising God and praying for one another.

God taught me the importance of praising and praying together as a family especially in a place where Jesus Christ’s name had never been mentioned before. We were singing together in the midst of a place where hearts were hardened and had never heard of a loving Father. God taught me that when we go through storms and difficult moments, it is so important to keep singing and to keep our eyes on God. He renewed our strength once again as we gathered together to worship Him. Our hearts were uplifted and encouraged for we knew that whatever may come, God will never leave us.
